Short Description Vesta, minor-planet designation 4 Vesta, is one of the largest objects in the asteroid belt, with a mean diameter of 525 kilometres. Vesta is the second-most-massive and second-largest body in the asteroid belt after the dwarf planet Ceres, and it contributes an estimated 9% of the mass of the asteroid belt. It slightly larger than Pallas, though significantly more massive. Vesta is the last remaining rocky protoplanet (with a differentiated interior) of the kind that formed the terrestrial planets. Numerous fragments of Vesta were ejected by collisions one and two billion years ago that left two enormous craters occupying much of Vesta's southern hemisphere. 4 Vesta - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Discovered by Heinrich Wilhelm Olbers Discovery date 29 March 1807 Type Asteroid AddInfo Vesta family Satellite of Sun Minor planet number 4 Orbit Prograde Rotation Direct Apoapsis 09 384 635 000 km Periapsis 09 321 766 000 km Semi-major axis 09 353 201 000 km Distance from Sun 01 2.361 79 au Eccentricity 0.088 74 Orbital period 3.63 year | 1325.75 days Orbital speed 02 19.34 km/s Mean anomaly 020.86384° Inclination to the ecliptic 7.14043° Longitude of the ascending node 103.85136° Argument of periapsis 151.19853° Diameter/Size 03 525.4±0.2 km Dimensions (572.6 × 557.2 × 446.4) ± 0.2 km Flattening 0.220 4 Mass 1020×2.5907 6 ± 0.000 01 kg Density 01 3.456 ± 0.035 g/cm3 Surface gravity 0.25 m/s2 | 0.025 g Escape velocity 03 360 m/s Rotation period 0.2226 days | 5.342 hour Equatorial rotation velocity 03 257.5 m/s Albedo geometric 0.423 Temperature min 02 85 K | −188 °C Temperature max 02 270 K | −3 °C Apparent magnitude 5.1 to 8.48 Absolute magnitude 3.20 Angular diameter 0.70″ to 0.22″ - Comments
