Short Description Quaoar ("Kwawar") is a Kuiper belt object roughly half the size of Pluto. Its orbit in the Kuiper belt is not in resonance with Neptune, which means it is a classical Kuiper belt object. With an estimated mass greater than 1.6×1021 kg, Quaoar has the mass and diameter "usually" required for being in hydrostatic equilibrium according to the 2006 IAU draft definition of a planet (5×1020 kg, 800 km). Signs of water ice have been found, which suggests that cryovolcanism may be occurring. Quaoar has one known moon, Weywot. 50000 Quaoar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Discovered by Chad Trujillo, Michael Brown Discovery date 2002 Jun 05 Type TNO AddInfo Cubewano Satellite of Sun Minor planet number 50000 Orbit Prograde Rotation Direct Satellites Has satellites Shape Equilibrium spheroid Geological activity In the past Apoapsis 10 6 713 700 000 km Periapsis 10 6 263 400 000 km Semi-major axis 10 6 488 500 000 km Distance from Sun 02 43.373 au Eccentricity 0.034 704 Orbital period 285.65 years | 104 334 days Orbital speed 01 4.52 km/s Mean anomaly 287.542° Inclination to the ecliptic 007.9870° Longitude of the ascending node 188.772° Argument of periapsis 155.246° Diameter/Size 04 1110 ± 5 km Mass 1021×1.4 ± 0.1 kg | 0.12 Eris Density 01 1.99 ± 0.46 g/cm3 Surface gravity 0.276 – 0.376 m/s2 Escape velocity 03 523 – 712 m/s Rotation period 17.678 8 hours | 0.736 62 day Albedo geometric 0.109 Temperature mean 02 43 K | −233 °C ( Apparent magnitude 19.3 Absolute magnitude 2.82 - Comments
